Many children struggle to express their feelings because they haven’t been properly taught about emotions or how to communicate them. I want to create a product that helps children understand that it’s okay to share and talk about their feelings. This app will teach them about different emotions, empathy, and healthy ways to express themselves—ultimately supporting their emotional development.

In terms of research, I looked into existing tools that solely focused on emotions for children. I looked at what they offered and the reviews of parents. I also talked to expecting parents I knew. I asked questions to see how they were planning to teach emotions and how they would feel about an app to help out.

Before drawing my paper wireframes, I created two personas and a competitive audit to get a better understanding of my product.

I created paper wireframes to start then transformed them into a low-fidelity prototype. Then I asked my family and friends to do my usability study to receive feedback and make changes to the design.

I created the high-fidelity prototype and like usual considered accessibility by applying proper hierarchy and labels, picking suitable colors and fonts, and simple wording.

From here, I transitioned to creating my responsive site. I started by creating a sitemap then followed the same process as above and finished with my high-fidelity prototype for both website and iPad version.

Children often struggle to express their emotions, and not all parents know how to teach them. While it may not seem like a priority, learning emotional skills early has lifelong benefits. This app helps both children and parents navigate emotions together. A potential user called it "promising."

Going through the proper steps to create this product helped me create something solid and feasible in three different versions.
