The Upper Midwest Bleeding Disorders Alliance is a nonprofit organization that provides support, resources, and a sense of community for individuals living with bleeding disorders.
Website Redesign

For this project, I redesigned the website for a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with bleeding disorders. The client’s primary goal was to create a more professional and cohesive website while preserving the organization’s logo colors, which were an important part of their brand identity.

To begin, I researched websites from similar nonprofit organizations to understand how they balanced professionalism with strong brand recognition. Using these insights, I audited the existing site in Canva and redesigned it page by page.

One of the client’s main concerns was that the homepage felt too long and overwhelming. I streamlined the content by prioritizing the most important information and reorganizing sections to create a clearer, more intuitive flow. To elevate the visual design, I reduced the heavy use of color, removed thick borders, and established blue as the primary color while using the remaining brand colors as accents. I also introduced colorful dot elements inspired by the logo to add personality and reinforce the organization’s visual identity.

The video here shows the original homepage vs the new homepage.

Beyond the visual redesign, I improved the site’s content and structure. I edited wording for clarity, incorporated a mix of stock photography and event photos, and reorganized information so that related content was grouped logically. In several cases, I created entirely new pages to better accommodate content that had previously been buried or misplaced.

I also solved a usability issue related to event flyers. Previously, the client uploaded flyers directly to the website and attempted to hide them by naming files with a period (“.”), but these files still appeared in the navigation bar and created an unprofessional experience. I replaced this workaround by embedding the flyers directly into the site, allowing users to view them on separate pages without cluttering the navigation.

The final result is a cleaner, more organized website that feels polished, trustworthy, and aligned with the nonprofit’s mission. The redesign transformed the site from a cluttered collection of content into a professional digital presence that better serves both the organization and its community.
